This super-compact and ultra-lightweight PENTAX Q10 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with Q-Mount. It features a new 12.4 MP BSI CMOS sensor, 3-inch LCD screen, fast autofocus, 5fps continuous shooting, Shake Reduction, Full HD video recording and Creative features. This stylish tiny camera offers digital-SLR-quality photography to everyone.
Thanks to the incorporation of a newly designed 1/2.3 inch back-illuminated (BSI) CMOS image sensor with outstanding high-sensitivity and low-noise characteristics, the Q10 delivers high-resolution, rich-gradation images with 12.4-megapixels and ISO up to 6400.
The Q10's Sensor-shift Shake Reduction system produces sharp, blur-free images even under demanding conditions that are prone to camera shake, such as when using a telephoto lens, shooting in the dark without flash illumination, or capturing landscapes in the twilight.
The PENTAX's high-performance Q-mount lenses ensures that the Q10 delivers clear, high-contrast images rich in gradation and texture, even at the edges.
Thanks to the new image sensor and an upgraded AF algorithm, the Q10's autofocus operation is much faster than before, even when using a telephoto lens or shooting in dimly lit locations. An AF Assist Light is provided on the camera body to optimize focusing accuracy in the dark, while the Face Recognition AF function automatically detects up to 12 faces and pinpoints the focus on the main subject.
The Q10 features high-speed continuous shooting mode allows the photographer to record up to five images per second. This mode comes in handy when trying to preserve the action of fast-moving subjects in a series of images.
Easily capture or review images and video using the Q10's high-resolution, wide-view 3-inch 460,000 dots LCD monitor. The External Viewfinder O-VF1 makes an excellent accessory to the Q10, offering outstanding compositional framing, even in the brightest sunlight where viewing an LCD screen is traditionally a challenge.
Q10's Powerful USER modes allow the creative photographer to save a series of favorite camera settings, filters, and custom image modes for instant reuse.
The digital filter function lets the photographer apply a variety of visual effects without needing a computer. With a total 19 digital filters, 11 filters such as Toy Camera, Invert Color and Posterization can be applied even during the shooting of still images and movie clips, while the remaining 8 are applicable only during playback.
By assigning the creative Smart Effect function to the easy-to-access Quick-Dial positioned on the camera's front panel, the photographer can effortlessly add the desired finishing touch to an image, while previewing the effect on the LCD screen.
Since the Quick-Dial has 4 positions, the photographer can customize 4 of their favorites from the 9 Smart Effect modes in advance. In order to customize the Q10 to accommodate specific shooting styles and user preferences, the user can also assign other options such as a custom image setting, a digital filter or an aspect ratio setting to this dial.
Besides taking breathtaking pictures, the Q10 can also record high-quality 1920x1080 full-HD at 30fps with stereo sound. With a push of the OK button on the back panel, the Q10 even offers autofocus operation during movie shooting. The user can also take advantage of the advanced image-processing tools like the Smart Effect modes and other built-in movie editing tools during movie shooting.
The PENTAX Q10's unique bokeh control filter allows the user to purposely make the subject stand out by automatically assessing the relative distance between the in-focus subject and obtrusive objects in the field of view. The Q10 assists the experienced and casual photographer alike by offering a fine degree of extra control over image bokeh via this in-camera filter operation.
The photographer can even take advantage of the HDR (High Dynamic Range) function, which shoots 3 images of varying exposures, blending them to bring out the details in even the darkest shadows and brightest highlights of extreme contrast shots.
The Q10 features Auto Picture mode, which automatically selects the most appropriate shooting mode from such options as Portrait, Landscape and Macro for a given subject or scene, then optimizes all affecting parameters, such as shutter speed, aperture, white balance, saturation, contrast and sharpness.
It also provides 21 Scene modes including Night Scene Portrait, Pet and Backlight Silhouette, allowing even an inexperienced digital photographer to choose the best exposure mode for a complicated scene with the simple choice of an icon on the LCD monitor.
To accommodate user preferences and varying photographic applications, Q10 also offers 4 exposure modes: Programmed AE (P), Shutter-Priority AE (Tv), Aperture-Priority AE (Av) and Manual (M) mode. The photographer can even instantly switch the exposure modes with a simple turn of an electronic dial.
The Q10 accepts the PENTAX Q-mount lens system for convenient interchangeability with a variety of specialty Q lenses. With the availability of a K-Mount adapter for the PENTAX Q-series of cameras, the Q / Q10 users can now use any one of 25 million PENTAX K-mount lenses with their Q system.
